Cookie Policy

Do we use cookies?

Auroracast does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party analytics or advertising service.

What we use instead: localStorage

We use your browser's localStorage to remember your preferences locally on your device. This is not a cookie — it is never sent to our server and is only readable by this site. The following preferences are stored:

KeyWhat it storesWhen set
auroracast_homeYour chosen home location (lat, lon, city name) for the globe and weather cardWhen you set a home location on the globe
push_alert_thresholdYour chosen Hp30 threshold for push alerts (5, 6, or 8)When you change the push alert level
sound_alert_enabledWhether sound alerts are enabled (true/false)When you toggle sound alerts
sound_alert_thresholdYour chosen Hp30 threshold for sound alerts (5, 6, or 8)When you change the sound alert level
themeLight or dark theme preferenceWhen you toggle the theme

How to clear your preferences

You can clear all stored preferences by opening your browser's developer tools (F12), going to Application → Local Storage → auroracast.co.uk, and clicking "Clear All". Alternatively, clearing your browser's site data will also remove them.

Service worker

If you enable push notifications, a service worker is registered in your browser. This is a small background script that enables notifications to be delivered even when the tab is closed. It stores no personal data and can be removed by unsubscribing from alerts, which also unregisters the service worker.

Third-party cookies

Esri satellite map tiles are loaded in your browser for the aurora globe. Esri may set their own cookies or storage entries under their domain. Please refer to Esri's privacy policy for details.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if we introduce any new storage mechanisms. We do not intend to add tracking cookies.
